An innovative approach to help breast cancer patients post-mastectomy has been awarded the Inaugural Allergan Innovation Award at NUI Galway. Dr Niamh O'Halloran, a researcher with the School of Medicine at NUI Galway, received the award for her project which seeks to use the body's own cells to avoid complications wih implants.

The programme is aimed at Transition, 5th and 6th year students and will be run on campus on January 27 and February 3, 10, and 17 2016. NUI Galway Mini Med School is designed to give students a taste of what it would be like to study a healthcare-related degree at the University, while encouraging them to pursue their interests. It is the second initiative of its kind in Ireland along with the College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI).
